Episode 6-dictation:giving advice

Wednesday Mar 07, 2012

Wednesday Mar 07, 2012

Hello again!
This podcast is a listening exercise. You will need a pen and paper while you listen. It's all about giving advice for someone who wants to visit the UK.
This type of dictation exercise is very useful because it can show you what sounds you find difficult to hear - and when it's hard to understand something while listening, it means that it's hard to be accurate when you're speaking or writing. Here's the worksheet and transcript, but please don't look at the speech until after you have finished listening.

This podcast is a listening task, and you'll find a worksheet and the transcript on this link here. Download it, and try to listen and do the tasks before you look at the transcript.

Phrasal Verbs II

Monday Feb 20, 2012

Monday Feb 20, 2012

Hi everyone, today's podcast is all about separable and inseparable phrasal verbs. Why can we say turn on a light, turn a light on, turn it on, but not turn on it? Why can we say look after a cat and look after it, but not look a cat after or look it after? You may find that a dictionary is useful while you listen to this podcast.

Phrasal Verbs I

Wednesday Feb 15, 2012

Wednesday Feb 15, 2012

Hello everyone!
This is my first attempt at doing a podcast, and I'm afraid that the sound quality isn't perfect on this. Someone started off the fan on my desk as I was recording from underneath it (yeah, it's a long story, but hey, it's most of your English teachers will have lived under a desk at some stage. Often in a nest made from your homework :) )
This lesson is about Phrasal verbs. I'm only looking at one verb in particular, and focusing on literal and idiomatic meanings.
This podcast includes cats, dogs, and Italian dwarfs.
